/*TechStack is here and you are invited!*/

August 26, 2026

We’ve been working on the new DataFlex TechStack for quite some time. Now we’ve reached an exciting milestone: the first Technology Preview is ready for you to explore!

TechStack will become a major part of DataFlex 2027 and brings a new technology foundation to DataFlex. But instead of waiting until everything is finished, we want to bring you into the development process much earlier.

Really early.

This is not your usual DataFlex preview

Normally, you know what to expect from a DataFlex release: Alpha, Beta, Release Candidate and then the final release. We’re doing things differently with TechStack.

Today’s release is the first in a series of Technology Previews. From here, we are aiming for a new update every month, gradually adding more of the technology we are building for TechStack. That means this first preview is early. It’s not a Beta and definitely not something to start using in production. It’s something to explore, experiment with and give us feedback on.

And that’s exactly the point.

Follow the development as it happens

We want to develop TechStack together with the DataFlex community.

Instead of showing you the finished result at the end, we are opening up the development process. You can try new functionality as it becomes available, see how the technology evolves and tell our R&D team what you think along the way.

Found something that doesn’t work as expected? Tell us. Have a question about why something works the way it does? Ask. Tried something interesting? We want to hear about that too.

You’re not just getting an early preview. You’re getting a chance to help shape what comes next.

Everything you need to get involved

The TechStack online documentation is your starting point. It contains the latest Technology Preview, installation and getting-started guides, technical information and release notes. As new functionality arrives, this is where you will find it.

The DataFlex Forum is where the conversation happens. Ask questions, share what you’ve tried and, most importantly, give our R&D team your feedback.

And there’s another important part of the program: livestreams with our R&D team.

Let’s explore it together

We’re kicking things off with two livestreams hosted by DataFlex R&D developers Bram and Harm.

  • In the first livestream on Thursday August 27, we will start at the beginning. Bram and Harm will install the Technology Preview, introduce the new toolchains and get your first TechStack project up and running.

  • In our second livestream on Thursday September 3, Bram and Harm will introduce a major part of the new technology: brand-new Data Dictionaries and a redesigned model for accessing your database. They will explain what’s changing, why we’re changing it and show the new approach in action.

Can’t make it to the livestream? No worries, the content will always stay available on the DataFlex-dev YouTube Channel. If you have any questions you can always share them on the forum, or discuss them in the next livestream.

As TechStack grows, we are planning monthly livestreams to show you what’s new, explain what we’re working on and give you another opportunity to talk directly to the people building it.
